Protest the War AND Make $80k in Cash

Want to make an extra $80k? Start wearing anti-Bush T-shirts and wait to get arrested:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A couple arrested at a rally after refusing to cover T-shirts that bore anti-President Bush slogans settled their lawsuit against the federal government for $80,000, the American Civil Liberties Union announced Thursday.

Nicole and Jeffery Rank of Corpus Christi, Texas, were handcuffed and removed from the July 4, 2004, rally at the state Capitol, where Bush gave a speech. A judge dismissed trespassing charges against them, and an order closing the case was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Charleston.

  1. But like any lawsuit against our gov’t, this $80K is coming out of the rest of us since it’s our tax dollars supporting the federal bank rolls :( While I totally support this Charleston couple’s rights, and believe they were right to fight this, I’d hate to see this open the flood gates to more lawsuits lest all of our taxes start climbing to deal w/these. It would be so much nicer if people would just wake up and stop voting (or allowing the hijacking of elections) for the many constitutionally-challenged people we have in office ;)

  2. I hear you… but if this is the price we have to pay for freedom so be it.

I’d rather pay the money in extra taxes and have freedom than have extra cash but unable to spend it on political criticism.

this is nothing compared to the Bush’s handouts to corporate America.

The war in Iraq costs sooo much because of this “cost plus” contracting. o budget, the contractors are to spend as much as they want and then they get a 3% profit on it. SO, the more you spend, the more profit you get.

This is why the US Government has already spend 500,000,000,000 on the war and will over the next 20 years with interest on the national debt and more spending amount to over $20,000,000,000,000,000. That is a lot of zeros.

Getting out of Iraq is not about saving lives of a few hundred solders. It should really be about saving some money so we can have some healthcare coverage and some money for social security.
