MUNI Fine Insurance

We seriously need MUNI fine insurance here in San Francisco:

Here’s how it works. You pay 500 rupees (about $11) to join an organization of fellow ticketless travelers. Then, if you do get caught traveling without a ticket, you pay the fine to the authorities and then turn in your receipt to the ticketless-traveler organization — which refunds you 100% of the fine.

I’ve been ticked THREE times from MUNI (as well as kicked in the face) at $163 a piece. What really makes me mad is that I always pay. I’ll just end up leaving my ticket somewhere like my barber.

At this rate it’s a lot cheaper for me not to pay but to instead ride all the time and then write off the tickets as cost of doing business.
