Donnie Darko – The Directors Cut

If you haven’t seen Donnie Darko – The Director’s Cut you really need to add it to your Netflix queue. The director’s cut goes above and beyond the call of duty and adds an additional 30 minutes or so to the original movie. While the theatrical version does a decent job this version adds more information about The Philosophy of Time Travel and adds a much deeper plot line.

This is the 3rd time I’ve seen the movie and it really resonates with me every time. Not sure why. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the 80s and really identify with Donnie.

It looks like the Directory, Richard Kelley, is going to have two movies out soon – Southland Tales and The Box.

What’s interesting about Donnie Darko is that it hit right after 911 so box office returns were horrible. After 911 the country was not looking for a dark and disturbing movie. Either way it stands the test of time in my book!
