Alex Tung (alex.douglas@msa.hinet.net) is an Unethical Domain Spammer

For the last five years I’ve been the lucky owner of peerfear.org. About a month ago I had hardware problems while trying to transfer the domain from Register.com to GoDaddy. Long story short – both Register and GoDaddy screwed up the transfer and they allowed my domain to go into the public.

I don’t really blame GoDaddy because I’m really happy with them. I blame Register.com. If they weren’t so incompetent I wouldn’t have had to transfer my domain in the first place.

Then an evil domain spamming company (snapnames) picked up my domain and held it up for auction.

An unethical domain spammer named alex.douglas@msa.hinet.net“>Alex Tung (alex.douglas@msa.hinet.net ) bought my domain and now plans on intercepting all of my hard earned traffic and turn it into an ad farm.

Luckly Google was smart enough to zero out my PageRank (ug) since the domain has changed hands. The problem is that a lot of people still link to peerfear.org.

I’m in the process of taking action and wanted some advice on the subject. Anyone here have a good idea how I can get my domain back? I’m certainly not going to pay the guy $1k for being a jerk and stealing my domain.

Here’s the email traffic we’ve had back and forth… I’ve given up on trying to get my domain back from him directly. I’m just going to assume he’s unethical and not worth dealing with. I love how he refers to himself as a Domaineer as if this was a legitimate job. These spammers prey on people unlucky enough to loose their domain due to bureaucratic mistakes and then punish future web surfers trying to get to their content by putting up ads.

For the record here’s his whois info for Google (and future employers) to pick up. Enjoy the spam Alex.

It looks like you've registered my domain:

http://peerfear.org/

I was in the process of transfering it from register to godaddy when it dropped
into the public. Any chance of getting it back? I've had this domain for 5
years........

Hi, Kevin

I am sorry for your losing this domain, I just won this domain from
http://snapnames.com autions system. This domain has very high traffic, so many
others bade. I can give back this domain if you could pay for my compensation.
Maybe you make an offer first, and we negotiate with each other.

Thanks a lot,
Alex Tung

Yeah.. the domain transfer didn't go though which is why is popped into the
open.

I doubt you'll have much traffic on that domain though as Google drops the
pagerank after the domain transfers ownership.

How much did you end up paying for the domain? I guess I don't have too much of
a problem compensating you.

Hi, Kevin

Google Page Rank is not the only one way to evaluate the traffic. I really hope
this domain is useful to the right person, even I don't know whether you are the
former owner of this domain or not. Maybe talk about what price you can offer,
it seems favorable for us. Thanks a lot, Alex Tung

The domain is only valuable because I built up the traffic. It's my
domain.. I've had it for 5 years now.

Google for:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&q=peerfear+Kevin+Burton&btnG=Search

Which is me.. every link to peerfear is pretty much often referencing my name.
Believe me it's my domain :)

yes.. I am..

I'm willing to pay you what you paid for it. Maybe slightly over but not
much. I'm not really excited about the fact that you'd make a profit off a
domain that I already own and has been mine for 5 years.

There are plenty of other domains out there dude :)

Hi, Kevin

In fact, I believe this was your doamin before. But for a domainer I just pick
some expired traffic domains, park them to PPC Sites and make money. Your
domain is valuable for every domainer, and not many domain like this one. If
you really want to take this domain, let's begin to negotiate with a price.

Alex..

Yes.. I said in my other email that I wanted my domain back.

Let me know how much you want for it ... I'd rather not run around in circles. I
just want to get this over with. Let me know how much you want and we can be
done.

Ok, I misunderstood what you meant, and I am sorry. I think USD 1,000 is an
reasonable price, if you can NOT accept this, let me know please. Thanks a lot
! Best regards, Alex

  1. Hi Kevin,
I have a similar case, so evidently, I’m interested.

My domain was used only for email and for 3 days went on the open “redeemable” market, as the registrar gave me 30 days to pay the renewal.

In this time, somebody got hold of the domain, without owning it (I paid and redeemed it) and now I get a lot of “antispam” mentions that my email was returned as spam. The spammer(s) just add jumbled letters in front of my domain name and send – I know not how many – emails, probably selling Viagra.

I wanted to start using the domain for a website – luckily I got wind of this abuse. I might leave it alone and forget about it, but then I need a new name…

I kind of liked this name…
