Kevin,
A friend just recently turned me onto your blog.
I though I had sleep aponea.
I had a sleep study done. Not full on aponea, they wanted to put me on a CPAP. I told them hell no, I'm not that serious and who can go backpacking when you are addicted to a CPAP?
The only real "cures" is surgery or loosing weight.
I don't have any weight to loose.

But I did 4 things that changed my life.
1. Neti-pot every night before bed.
2. Breathe Right Nasal Strips
3. No more sleeping on my back.
4. Deviated Septum Surgery and Turbinectomy (essentially nose roto-rooter and alignment.)

While the effects of the latter are hard to measure due to a 2 week recovery period. The first 2 gave me immediate results.
I hope this helps you!

Erin, that's great.

I haven't bought curtains yet... I'm still running with my ghetto garbage bags over the window.

It's only been a week though but I'm definitely not going to go back to sleeping how I was before.

How much did you pay for the curtains?

I'm going to buy some here soon.

I started following your blog for other reasons but your posts on sleep have made a diff in my life! who woulda thought? I bought blackout curtains & what a difference they make! I could not kick out the cats, and I haven't gotten the glasses (but it sounds like you didn't notice a diff w/them). All I did was change the curtains. It's noticeable. I wake up feeling refreshed. These curtains also block out sound so that also helps. Got them at Bed Bath & Beyond. Not sure how they were *supposed* to attach to my curtains so I just stitched 'em behind. it works.

I didn't even know my quality of sleep was off. I just knew it was taking me longer to wake up & I needed more coffee.

thanks!

It seems like something a person in a 1930's talkie movie would wear, but I've had really good results wearing a sleep eye mask.

They are so cheap that you might want to give it a try. Here's one I found on Amazon for 9 bucks - http://goo.gl/nrvcQ

The Tanita BC-1000 scales will ANT+ pair with your FR60 and view the data in the Health tab on Garmin connect.

If you got a Garmin 310XT/Edge 500 or something you could use your existing Garmin heart rate monitor and get a bike/speed sensor which does auto start/stop based on speed or cadence, plus in your Garmin connect you'll see moving time along with actual time. Zero averaging for cadence etc can be turned on/off also.

That sounds like it could save you a lot of time
