IE 7.0 (20%) is rapidly rising on Firefox 2.0 (4This is good and bad. I’m a big Firefox fan but if IE 7.0 can gain market share at the expense of IE 6.0 then I’m all happy.IE 6.0 is the new Netscape 4.7…

The other day I did a blog post on ethernet latency. The next morning I was number two in Google for this search term. I was actually planning a blog post about how quick I owned the keywords and how blogs are doing a great job at SEO. Five minutes ago I did a search and I’m not even on the first page! What is on the first page?

Thought you guys might find this insteresting.

The other night I was thinking about MySQL cluster and whether or not a high speed interconnect would be worth the investment. Doing some research lead me to the conclusion that Ethernet latency isn’t discussed very often except in niche mailing list threads.

I have a coupon here given to me by a friend (who will stay anonymous until I have his permission) at Jangl for $200 off on Apple hardware…. You also have to spend more than $2k and use the coupon by the end of the month.Instead of having it go to waste I figured one of my blog readers could use it.You have to have sufficient karma though.

If you buy links you’ll get kicked off MSN search:Your site is acquiring links through posting to or exchanging links with sites unrelated to your site content. Techniques which attempt to acquire unrelated spam links in order to increase ranking are considered spam and your site has been excluded from our index as results.

We’re going to be rolling out some pretty cool features as part of Tailrank 2.1…. Mostly I’d just like to give you early access to a few things we’re working on and get your unbiased feedback.

ETA for MySQL 5.1.13??

I’m waiting for MySQL 5.1.13 because I need the MySQL cluster ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE bug fixed. We rely on this for performance reasons so I can’t to a test migration until this is out.Anyone know the ETA?

How awesome is this!? God bless media diversity!

Relational databases use indexes to speed up their performance usually due to the fact that their underlying storage is inherently slow.I’ve often created secondary indexes with MyISAM which aren’t used in day-to-day operation but that are needed for debugging or exploration of the database.

Check this out. Some scientists have used a non-newtonian fluid and kevlar and created a cloth which is bullet proof.

If you haven’t seen Donnie Darko – The Director’s Cut you really need to add it to your Netflix queue. This is the 3rd time I’ve seen it and it really resonates with me every time. Not sure why.

VentureBeat blogs about a comment made by Ram Shriram:ā€œI’d rather see start-ups scrappy and frugal and on a diet of Ramen noodles,ā€ he said on a panel during the Web 2.0 Summit.I’ve gone back and forth on this issue…. I think if you’re doing your first startup you need to eat ramen.

Free as in Java

The news is out that Java is free. I suspect that 20-30 bloggers are going to steal that title so I wanted to try to get my blog post out first.

The guys from Invisible Engine crashed at my place during the vloggies and man they’re amazingly funny. The next day I gave them directions to the Golden Gate Bridge and they created a new short called Bay Area Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Do you think Bush should be impeached? Then head on over to MSNBC and vote!

I was talking to Dathan today at MySQL camp and he pointed out that one could use memcached as a cheap configuration database.

Monty is sitting next to me and he noted that online ALTER TABLE will be available in MySQL 5.3 for adding columns and indexes.

I’m taking notes from the MySQL core kernel talk:The core is written like this:ParserOptimizerOn startup MySQL calls main() and then a plugin init. The plugin has a UDF handler for user defined functions…. This seems like a cool way to add Lucene support to any type of MySQL storage engine.

A while back the Web 2.0 show interviewed me about Tailrank. The quality of the Skype call was really amazing. Apparently the trick is port forwarding so that it doesn’t have to do P2P tunneling.
